Tyler Perry was born Emmitt Perry Jr on 10/13/1969 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He had a childhood of abuse inflicted upon him by his father. It is for this reason that he changed his name to Tyler Perry. It was his way of seperating from his father. He was put out of school in his last year but returned the following year to get his diploma.
One day while watching Oprah Winfrey he heard her say that it was good to write difficult experiences down. This is exactly what he began to do. He wrote a series of letter to himself which eventually turned into his first musical “I Know I’ve Been Changed.” Tyler Perry took the last of his savings $12,000 and invested it into his play. He was the director, writer, producer, and the star of the show. It was held in Atlanta Ga in 1992. Sadly enough only about 30 people showed up. He was back to square one. This resulted in him being 6 ft. 5 and sleeping in a Geo Metro car. He was homeless. He began working odd jobs to fund doing shows on the chitlin circuit. In a interview with Cathy Hughes Tyler Perry said he was just about ready to throw in the towel and pursue his architect skills. He gave it one more try by renting out “The House Of Blues” in Atlanta Ga.. There he performed a updated version of “I know I’ve Been Changed.” It was a success and eventually Tyler Perry began selling out seats on the chitlin circuit. His success had finally begun.
Tyler Perry addressed his character Madea. He said in a interview with Cathy Hughes that he heard the comment Dave Chappelle made about all black men having to dress up as a woman in order to succeed in Hollywood. He said for him that wasn’t the case. The role of Madea was actually supposed to be played by a actor he had hired. When the actor never showed up for work, he filled in for her. Thus Madea was born. Who is Madea? We know her as the woman that handles her business in the hood. To Tyler Perry its the exact replica of his Aunt. The way she talks and the whole nine. The only difference is that Madea carries a gun in her purse and his Aunt carries a knife. Madea launched Tyler Perry to the next level. He said he wanted to get rid of the character but the public demand for her was to great to drop the character.
The Bishop T.D. Jakes came to Tyler Perry to work with him on his first movie in 2005 entitled “Diary Of A Mad BLack Woman.” He received a $5.5 million dollar budget. Which turned into a huge box office success. It played in 1,483 theaters and grossed $21,905,089 in just 3 days! By the 10th day of being in theaters the movie had grossed $37,077,829! The man had arrived! Number one in the box office. Here’s a list of his stage plays…
I know I’ve been changed
I can do bad all by myself
Diary of a Mad Black Woman
Madea’s Family Reunion
Madea’s Class Reunion
Why did I get Married
Meet the Browns
Madea Goes to Jail
What’s Done in the Dark
The Marriage Counselor
Laugh to Keep from Crying
Tyler Perry has had much movie making success in partnership with Lionsgate. The first movie was “Diary Of A Mad Black Woman” grossed $50.6 million. The second was “Madea’s Family Reunion” which grossed $65 million. The third was “Daddy’s Little Girls” which grossed over $31 million. The fourth was “Why did I get Married” which grossed $21.4 million that weekend! The fifth was “Meet the Browns” which grossed $20,082,809 on the opening weekend! Next came “The Family That Preys” which grossed over $37.1 million. Then came “Madea Goes to Jail” which was number 1 at the box office grossing $41 million. Next came “I can do bad all by myself” another box office hit selling more than $24 million dollars in ticket sales in 1 week. Talk about making some money! Next he worked with Oprah Winfrey on the movie Precious which grossed a whopping $141 million dollars! Lionsgate really made a good investment when they decided to back Tyler Perry!
Next he made the movie sequel “Why did I get married too” which grossed $54 million. This was his 9th movie!
Perry’s 10th film for Lionsgate, is about four Girls Who Have Considered Suicide “When The Rainbow Is Enough” , is scheduled to begin principal photography on June 1st in Atlanta. He is directing his screen adaptation of the Obie Award-winning play by Ntozake Shange, and produces alongside Paul Hall. The film stars Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine, Anika Noni Rose and Macy Gray. The pic is scheduled for nationwide release on January 14, 2011.
Can you see what we see? Jobs! Jobs! and more Jobs!! That’s what leadership is about!
Tyler Perry pitched the idea of “Meet the Browns” to Hollywood. Hollywood wanted him to alter the show to what they wanted it to be. Tyler stood his ground and walked away. Went back to Atlanta and produced 10 episodes of the show. He then was able to ink a deal with the TBS cable network. The deal was 100 episodes for $200 million! He then went on to create another TV sitcom called “Meet the Brown” and is thinking about a third called “Floyd’s Family.”
Then Tyler Perry did the ultimate! He has built his own 30 acre “Tyler Perry Studio” out in Atlanta Ga. The first African American owned and operated major television and movie studio! It has 5 studios and a 500 seat viewing theater. He has chosen to name 3 of the studios after great African American actors, Ruby Dee, Sidney Poitier, Cicely Tyson. There are rumors that this will become a Atlanta tourist site. On opening night he introduced thousands of specially invited guests to his new studio. These guests included Sidney Poitier, Cicely Tyson, Ruby Dee, Louis Gossett Jr, Oprah Winfrey, Hank Aaron, Andrew Young, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett, and Barry Bonds.

Tyler Perry literally shitted on all black men in this last movie! Many people walked out halfway through the movie. I wouldve myself but I wanted to see how far this nigger would go! He had a black man rape a woman! He had a black man give a successful black woman HIV because he was sleeping with another man behind her back! He had a black man literally throw his fuckin kids out the window! What da fuc was this man thinking??!! I wondered how he climbed to the top so fast and now I know!!! Now that everyone is watching his movies its time to make the world hate black men! This boule nigger literally made the black man look like shit! Then he kept flashing gay pride colors all through the movie and at the end as well. He definately was pushing the thought that black women need to leave black men alone and lean on each other and fuc a man. For all you blacks who say nothing is wrong with this movie just ask yourself…….Imagine if a white man had made this movie…..how would you feel then?

    To angryblkman

You must b an angry black man looking for someone to place blame. It is obvious to me that you are so angry that you didn’t do your homework before commenting on this film. This film was based on a novel NOT WRITTEN by Tyler himself. Therefore HE didn’t “S…” on black men the original author of the Girls Who Have Commited Suicide When The Rainbow is Not Enough. Tyler only brought a visual to the written poetry of an African American Woman. Furthermore to address your question of a white man doing such a film I would look and say this is a dag-on shame that the white man recognizes what our black men are doing to our black women and they have no shame in their game. They have no remorse as to what they do no wonder their women are leaving them and going to him (white man). It is time that we as a black people stop pooping on each other and be glad that we have balck men still out here trying to pave a way for other black men. Especially those men who are too ignorant to see the good in someone else. To Tyler: Keep up the excellent work and by far the anointing on you has proven that you are not a nigger. I apologize for the ignorant responses coming from our black people. Don’t worry because God has rewarded you openly and as long as you continue to serve him he will continue to bless you. In due time man will be looking up to you instead of sitting on you.

    Uhhmmm elysie
I already knew he made the movie based upon a book that was already written. That does not make it right. In all things there are 2 sides to the story. Some see a glass half empty some see it half full. I understand your side now you must understand why I feel this way.
At some point I would like someone to make a book and a movie that has nothing but all the negative things one could find about black women. I hope they make this movie showing long lines of black women lined up to kill their babies because theyre too scared to take care of them ( statistics show that more black babies are killed then diabeties, cancer, and aids combined) then I want them to show a black woman throwing her baby in the trash can and walking away, I want them to show a black gold diggin woman thats out for nothing but a mans money. I want them to show a black woman giving birth to a crack baby and show the deformed baby, then I want them to show a black woman cheating on her man and giving him aids and all he did was try to be a loving husband. I want them to show a black woman standing in line pregnant with other black women waiting to get on welfare and her saying she dont need the man she letting the government be the baby daddy. I want them to show a black woman taking the welfare money and going out to the club leaving the baby home alone and the house catch on fire and they burn up……….when they do make such a movie elyse….i want you to be proud of the people who made it. You should find no fault with it because you find no fault when one was made like this about black men. If you are truely a black woman of pride I know you would find that movie offensive. At that point some black man will say to you……………..its about time they made a movie showing how these black women are. Just as you have said to me.

Elyse All black men are not like the ones depicted in the movie. If I was in a foreign country watching that movie I would say no wonder the whites treat them the way they do. They are animals! Just like a lot of blacks wont go to Africa because of the way television makes them look. Your only thinking on the surface or maybe youve been hurt before so your not seeing the bigger picture. That movie will be shown to the world and the world will see ALL black men in America as being just what they saw in the movie. You and I know thats not true…..cmon they even showed a black business man in a suit and tie making the woman feel good with laughter and friendship just to turn around and rape her. So other races and cultures will take that as you cant even trust a black man even if he’s in a suit and tie and makes you laugh and feel good because at any given moment he will rape you.
    Think my sister……..just think
